PICKING AND CHOOSING
They all do share a common purpose: to create sturdy, seamless interior walls and ceilings. There are many different factors to consider before selecting drywall or plaster repair and you want to make sure that a professional will do an excellent job with either repair.

Why Use Plaster?
a plaster wall can create a texture and feel to your home that no other wall can match. This is a material that can be customized to suit a variety of colors and styles that complement your home. When plaster is properly mixed and applied, the coating creates a more durable wall finish that is more resistant to water, dings, dents, and cracking.
In addition, plaster outperforms drywall in a number of key areas, including insulation, soundproofing, and fireproofing. One additional point in plaster’s favor is that by nature, mold can’t grow in plaster. By comparison, a leak behind your drywall can potentially lead to mold and mildew.
VENEER PLASTER FINISH
It's a great interior wall surface option that not a lot of people know about!
veneer plaster system is a thin coat of plaster, usually 3/32 inch, over a gypsum-based panel. The reason for specifying a veneer plaster is typically to achieve a hard, abuse-resistant monolithic surface.
Veneer plaster can be one- or two-coat systems.
The installation and particularly the finishing of a veneer plaster requires some knowledge, and pretty good trowel skills, and
TIMING!
Can veneer plaster be the finished surface?
Yes, it can and it’s used as a finished surface. If you like the look of it, it works. The practice of skimming the hard veneer with a soft joint drywall compound defeats the primary intent of the veneer plaster in the first place: abuse resistance, veneer plaster simply does not live up to the abuse resistance if skimmed over with drywall compound.
It’s much harder and smoother than drywall surfaces making it more resilient to dents.
Also, if you choose to paint it, paint tends to dry in a more even consistency, plaster veneer is commonly ideal for renovating older homes that have existing lath-and-plaster walls, also provides a finished surface that has proven to stand up to the everyday abuses common in buildings such as police stations, schools and hospitals.
It’s a lot easier, and faster than ripping those walls out and putting in drywall.
Yes, it’s both a drywall alternative as well as a drywall enhancer. That said, you can apply it to many different surfaces (substrates) such as old lath and plaster walls, sheetrock, concrete, plywood… whatever you want. Depending on the surface, you may need a two-coat system instead of the thinner one-coat system.
Most veneer plaster systems suggest applying it to some gypsum base wall such as blueboard or even drywall (you can buy veneer-plaster ready gypsum products here)

Drywall Advantages
- Drywall is manufactured faster and this makes a difference to the energy costs during their construction.
- Although drywall is rather heavy, a professional drywall company with the right lifting machines and equipment will install either walls or ceilings in no time. So the installation is done fast.
- The truth is that drywall is not very durable. And although this would be a disadvantage, it’s only fair to say that drywall plastering will make the surface much stronger.
- Drywall is fire resistant due to the gypsum which will prevent the fire from spreading.
- It’s cost effective.
- Drywall can be used for the construction of regular walls and ceilings but also as a partition. It can be removed and installed easily and can be cut in all sizes. This means that you can patch a hole by cutting a piece of drywall and fitting it to cover the gap.
- With drywall ceilings and walls, you can install recessed lighting and hang anything you want with ease.

Drywall Disadvantages
- As a rule of thumb, drywall is not resistant to water. When installed in bathrooms, basements, or other high moisture rooms, its condition might be affected. And damp drywall will allow mold infestations. If drywall is water damaged, it must be replaced. The only solution to the problem is to get drywall with fiberglass instead of paper. These drywall types are more water resistant.
- Without plastering over the drywall, the surface will be prone to damage. Drywall can be easily damaged since it’s not resistant to impact. So, you might have problems with holes, damaged corners, tapes coming off, and joints cracking. The good news is that there are drywall repair solutions for such problems.
- Although drywall is installed rather easily, the experts must be committed techs because drywall finishing must be done correctly or you will have problems with the joints or tapes later. They must also prepare the room before the installation because drywall generates a lot of dust which can easily spread all over the house.
The cons of drywall are actually fixable problems. If you take precaution measures and select the right materials and drywall contractor from the start, you shouldn’t have any problem. And minor problems from the expected wear and tear are easily manageable. Clearly, the advantages of drywall are plenty and give you a good reason for investing in this material.

Benefits Of Lime Plaster!
Now we get to the good stuff!
Lime is Breathable
Lime is Flexible
Lime is Ecological
Lime is life!
Lime is one of the oldest building materials in the world. Used since 7000 B.C.E. It is Monolithic! Also many health benefits adding to its superiority. It is produced by heating natural limestone in a kiln, leaving only calcium oxide, known as quicklime. When quicklime is combined with sand and water, lime mortar is produced. Lime plaster lets the water easily pass through it, lime production is considered carbon neutral as the carbon dioxide emitted during the creation of quicklime is reabsorbed by lime mortar and chemically converts back into limestone, thus also getting stronger as it ages.
lime is flexible, and can be used in many scenarios to work better as compared to cement or Drywall.
Any type of movement in the building structure can cause to easily crack open, and then entrap damp within. That’s why flexible lime is preferred.
Lime Is a Natural Bacteria Repellant
The material is alkaline which makes it a natural bacteria repellant. It is also an effective mold killer.
Ecological Benefits
Lime can be recycled after reaching the end of its lifespan. The material is also carbon-neutral as it is not made on giant plants that emit tons of CO2 into the atmosphere and lime is able to absorb carbon dioxide from the air.
Finally, this material does not release harmful substances, like VOC.
